Module 1
Yang Short Form training course
Grandmaster Yang Cheng Fu The Old Yang Style long form is a fundamental part of the Yang Tai Chi landscape - however it is a long and repetitive series. The 24 form is a much shorter variant that retains almost all of the fundamental framework found in the original. In this course we will be performing the short form in a number of different ways dependant on focus, but as a baseline it will be performed in the Old Yang style and not the modern competition 24 Step style. It is also done in the Yang family large frame style. This was established by Yang style Tai Chi Grandmaster Yang Cheng Fu who was the grandson of the Yang Tai Chi founder. The frame/postures are open and extended, simple and direct. The form is compact and precise with body alignment maintained whilst moving. The movements are gentle, flowing and performed at an even speed which makes it really attractive to many people. This is a comprehensive online visual programme that helps you learn more about Tai Chi and experience the joy of learning and practising. The Yang form covered in this course can be performed in a high, medium or low stance. The degree of difficulty can be adjusted according to ones’ requirements and physical condition. It retains martial arts aspects of defence and attack, and is suitable for strengthening the body and improving mental and physical health. This course gives you practical and easy to follow instruction - with demonstration of the short form. It is the world's most popular Tai Chi sequence. The Yang short form is so popular because people of all ages and fitness levels can start learning it. I encourage all my Kempo students to take some time to learn Tai Chi principles and certain individual forms to help them learn about breathing and posture alignment. When the body and mind relaxes you can generate more speed and power. In the history of Tai Chi Chuan, the Yang style came from the Chen style. The creator, Yang Luchan, wanted to make the practise of Tai Chi more accessible to the wider public in China and so designed this style to be accessible to all. He truly believed in sharing the treasure of Tai Chi to the nation and indeed the world. You won't be disappointed! |
